Business Units: growth and new opportunities worldwide
In the first half of 2025, all Business Units show positive signs, with ECS® at the core of the offer and a focus on business development, customer proximity and increased production capacity. Despite some local challenges, the overall trend is one of growth and consolidation.
Latin America: steady growth and new opportunities in Brazil
Demand for ECS is still high and growing, remaining the focus of the business unit’s sales activities. Cross-selling is again a challenge, but new opportunities for product diversification are being explored. Overall, the trend is positive and focused, with a gradual expansion of visibility among the main market players.
The most important project in recent months was the closing of the largest commercial agreement with Ovos São Pedro, the largest egg producer in Amazonas. A success that started in 2022 thanks to the introduction of MRE.
We are also in the final stages of bringing in a new sales representative for Brazil, Antonio Cirilo de Paula Bueno, who has more than 10 years of expertise in the poultry industry and a solid client portfolio. His arrival will strengthen the local presence and support throughout the country.
One element of attention is the avian influenza epidemic in Brazil: although it remains under control, it has generated uncertainty among producers, with possible impacts on investments and new orders. The situation is constantly monitored and the dialogue with priority customers remains active.
Europe: growing order demand for ECS® and first concrete steps for HCS® Prolife
The first half of the year confirmed the European market’s strong interest in the EggsCargoSystem®, with a steady growth in orders and an increasing volume of enquiries, both from long-standing customers and from new contacts. In particular, significant expansion is observed in Romania and Hungary, while sales in Poland continue on a positive trend. Important prospects are also opening up in Greece, where an order of 600 ECS® sets is planned for next year from a new strategic customer.
The team is going through a period of busy work: despite the valuable support of new colleagues Mees Brouwer and Filipa Contreiras, the day-to-day handling of the numerous requests needs constant commitment. This is certainly a positive sign, which testifies to the increasing visibility and relevance of our business presence in Europe.
As part of the induction process, Mees took part in several strategic visits together with Simone and Bert, including Sanovo, Prinzen, Ovotrack and MOBA, as well as a laying farm in Barneveld. These visits proved to be crucial in strengthening their knowledge of the poultry sector and laying a solid foundation for the future development of the new HCS® Prolife system, which is already being tested in the industry.
The ECS® system remains the best-selling product in Europe. However, it should be noted that the new stoppers applied to the trays, manufactured in Italy, may be incompatible with some denesting systems used by customers. A technical guide is being prepared and will be made available on the company intranet. For further clarification or specific support, please contact Simone directly.
The analysis of collaborations with European dealers is also continuing: in some cases, exclusivity agreements are being reviewed, in order to ensure greater commercial coverage and seize new development opportunities, especially in less-covered markets.
On the logistics front, there are some difficulties in distribution, mainly related to the shortage of empty containers, strikes and local protests in some European areas, which are sometimes slowing down delivery times.
The European BU will participate in the Dutch Pork & Poultry exhibition in October, where the entire Giordano Global range will be presented and the new HCS® Prolife proposal will be promoted, with the aim of strengthening market presence and opening new business relations.
CIS and Ukraine: signs of growth and resilience in the poultry sector
In the second quarter of 2025, the poultry sector in the CIS countries showed a positive trend, with steady growth in production volumes on a regional scale.
In Kazakhstan, the poultry population reached 48.6 million heads, up 5.9% year-on-year. In Uzbekistan, a new 50 per cent tax refund scheme for poultry and livestock farmers has been in operation since 1 April, which will further boost egg and meat production.
In Georgia, Armenia, Tajikistan and other countries, favourable dynamics are also observed due to more targeted state policies and growing demand.
In Ukraine, despite the effects of the war, the sector is slowly recovering. The main producers have resumed activity, internal demand remains strong and export channels are gradually reopening. Poultry meat remains the most consumed type in the country.
The outlook for Ukraine indicates:
– a 4.8% growth in production by 2024, higher than the global average;
– a return to pre-war levels by 2033, with an average annual rate of 1.1%;
– competitive prices, below the global average, to support exports.
Finally, Ukrainian producers are investing in modernisation, international certification and strategic positioning in global markets, consolidating the foundations for a stable and sustainable recovery.
North America: ECS at focus, HCS® Prolife project starts
The North American BU continues to record good demand for the ECS® system, which accounts for about 95% of the overall market interest. Order intake remains at positive levels, confirming the solidity of our presence in the territory and the reliability of our main products.
From the production point of view, significant improvements in the management and efficiency of workflows were reported, thanks also to an increasingly closer coordination between production and logistics, which is fundamental to serve a large and demanding market such as the North American one.
An important new development is the launch of the HCS® Prolife project in collaboration with customer Pitman, a long-standing partner with whom we share the goal of bringing sustainable innovation to the poultry sector. This initial phase represents a first step to make known and field test a system that focuses on advanced performance and animal welfare, in line with new market requirements.
The prospects for the second half of the year are therefore positive: we will continue to invest in strengthening the sales network, customer care and the development of new opportunities, maintaining ECS® as a strategic pillar of the BU and decisively promoting advanced solutions such as the Prolife system.
Middle East & Africa: Growing Markets and New Production Capacity in Egypt
The BU Middle East & Africa continues to perform very well in most markets, with the exception of some countries affected by ongoing wars, which temporarily slow down its activities. In spite of this, demand for livestock equipment is growing strongly, with G86, Lindamatic, ECS®, chick boxes, Drawer and Piedmont for animal transport among the most popular products.
An important turning point for this year is the expansion of production capacity at the Egyptian factory, where two new Haitian presses of 1000 and 380 tonnes were recently installed. In parallel, two obsolete machines were decommissioned. Today, the plant has six presses, four of which are new generation, allowing us to improve efficiency and increase production capacity, while also supporting the needs of the other Giordano Global Business Units more effectively.
2025 is also proving to be a year full of trade show activity: the team has already participated in four major sector events – Saudi MEP, VIV Turkey, SISPA FILAHA in Algeria and AviAfrica in South Africa – strengthening the company’s visibility and creating new business opportunities in key markets.
The combination of growing demand, investment in facilities and an active presence in the region suggests a similarly dynamic second half of the year, with an even stronger focus on innovation and customer proximity.
CHINA – Demand for ECS systems grows in the PS duck market
In China, there is a strong interest in ECS products, especially in the PS (Parent Stock) segment related to the farming of meat ducks. This segment requires higher quality standards than the commercial egg market, and many new PS duck projects are expected to emerge in the coming years. According to figures updated to 2023, the annual production of meat ducks in China will be around 5 billion birds.
Among the most important projects in recent months is the collaboration with the He Kang Yuan group in Shandong province (contractual reference: Ning Yang), one of the leading operators in the duck PS sector nationwide. For this customer, ECS®, ECS® XL, Jumbo 1.0 trays and Protectors were supplied, as well as the Lindamatic 360 system, which is used for both supermarkets and hatching.
On a technical level, we note an increasing attention from customers to certain operational details: the pallets, for example, slightly exceed the standard length of 1.2 metres (reaching 1,208 mm), making double loading onto trucks difficult in some cases. It is therefore essential to verify this when placing an order. In addition, Chinese customers demand an improvement of the Protectors, which are known as a competitive advantage for Giordano, and propose to consider alternative solutions such as rubber bands, which are widely used locally. Evaluations are underway to adapt the proposal to the needs of the local market.
On July 15th a conference dedicated to the duck sector was held, a landmark event attended by the main Chinese players: an important opportunity to strengthen our position and gather new opportunities.
